Happy New Year! BCBH, Inc will be closed on January 1, 2025 in observance of the holiday
Providing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy in the home allows caregivers to actively participate in their child’s treatment, fostering collaboration and understanding. Children can engage with siblings, caretakers and other family members in their ABA program, which helps them to generalize skills across various relationships and settings. Caregivers are able to work closely with the behavior team, so they can learn effective strategies to support the child’s development.
Home-based ABA also enables staff to teach important skills in the environment where behaviors naturally occur. For example, daily living skills such as dressing independently or washing hands can be practiced using the child’s own bedroom, clothing, soap, and towels.
At BCBH, we offer collaborative ABA therapy that provides guidance and support for the entire family in the comfort of your home. This convenient approach eliminates the need for transitioning between locations and ensures the therapy environment is aligned with your child’s unique needs.
While home-based ABA therapy offers convenience, it’s crucial to prepare your home in advance to help the therapist provide the best care.
The ideal space for home-based ABA therapy sessions is free from distractions, such as TVs, electronic devices, and family members engaged in activities that may distract the child. Using the same area for each session helps maintain consistency and makes your child feel more comfortable. You can work with your BCBA to determine the best location when they first visit your home.
For effective ABA therapy, it’s important to have a comfortable space equipped with suitable materials for the child’s development. Using a child-sized table and chairs is advisable. The therapist may incorporate sensory tools, toys, or puzzles during sessions. To ensure these items remain engaging and effective, it’s helpful to keep them stored away when not in use.
During therapy sessions, caregivers are expected to be present and available during the entire time your child is working with the behavior team. We encourage parents to observe and engage in ABA therapy, and your BCBA will discuss expectations with you.
The ideal setting for ABA therapy can vary for each child and may evolve as they grow. Our experienced team will evaluate your child’s specific needs, behaviors, and goals to identify the most suitable therapy setting. For more information about home-based ABA therapy, contact us today.
